Roles and responsibilities

This section gives an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the main participants in a data integration project involving Commonwealth data for statistical and research purposes:

Data custodians - The key roles and responsibilities for data custodians under the Commonwealth arrangements concern the access and use of Commonwealth datasets in statistical data integration projects, as well as the design and management of administrative data holdings to support wider statistical and research use.

Integrating authorities - The integrating authority is the single organisation ultimately accountable for the sound conduct of the project, leading it through its approval, implementation and conclusion.

Data users - Data users, or researchers, include academics working in research institutions and employees doing research in state/territory agencies.

Cross Portfolio Data Integration Oversight Board - The Cross Portfolio Data Integration Oversight Board has been established under the Commonwealth arrangements to oversee the development of a cross government environment for data integration involving Commonwealth data for statistical and research purposes that is safe and effective.
